How to Remove Gmail Ads from Your Inbox: Step-by-Step Guide

Learn how to stop those annoying Gmail ads from appearing at the top of your inbox. Simple settings, filters, and tips to keep your email ad-free.

Are you tired of seeing sponsored messages at the top of your Gmail inbox? These ads can be distracting and make your email feel cluttered. The good news is you can reduce or completely remove them by adjusting a few settings and using Gmail’s built-in tools.

1. Switch to the Basic Inbox

Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top-right corner of Gmail.
Select See all settings.
Go to the Inbox tab.
Under Inbox type, choose Default and uncheck Promotions or select Unread first or Priority Inbox.

This removes the Promotions tab where most ads appear.

2. Turn Off “Promotions” and “Social” Tabs

In Quick Settings, click Customize next to “Inbox type: Default.”
Uncheck Promotions (and Social if you prefer).
